The Taxonomy and Locality tables are linked together as an record in the Occurrence table. This provides the means of analysing the distribution of particular taxa or taxonomic groups, or the faunal constituents of a specified location, region, formation, etc., (see my thesis and Markwick, 1998 for further details).
As of 1995, when I stopped compiling data for my thesis, the database contained information on almost 32000 vertebrate occurrences.

The table includes information on the specimens representing a particular occurrence since this can give a measure of the confidence with which the taxoanomic assignment can be taken. As with all other parts of this database, more details are available in my PhD thesis (Markwick 1996, University of Chicago)
